Egypt Shark Attack.

A Russian tourist was killed in a shark attack near a beach in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Hurghada on Thursday, June 8, 2023.

The man, who was in his late 20s, was swimming near the Sahl Hasheesh resort when he was attacked by a shark. He was taken to a local hospital, but he died from his injuries.

This is the third shark attack in Egypt in the past year. In July 2022, a 68-year-old Austrian woman was killed in a shark attack off the coast of Hurghada, and in October 2022, a Romanian tourist was injured in a shark attack off the coast of Sahl Hasheesh.

Shark attacks are rare in the Red Sea, but they do happen. The Red Sea is home to a variety of sharks, including tiger sharks, bull sharks, and mako sharks. These sharks are not typically aggressive towards humans, but they can be if they feel threatened.

The Egyptian government has closed off a 60-kilometer (37-mile) stretch of coastline near Hurghada in the wake of the attack. The closure is expected to last for at least a week.

The Egyptian government is also investigating the attack to determine what happened and to prevent future attacks.

The shark attack is a reminder of the dangers of swimming in the ocean. It is important to be aware of your surroundings and to take precautions when swimming in areas where sharks are present.
